Wedding Vendor's Number One Resource!

Gay Bride Diaries

Dearly Beloved,

I just went to two weddings this summer. One on a farm in rural Minnesota, and one on a lake in rural Wisconsin. The grass was groomed like a carpet in both locations, with flowers of many kinds and colors growing around and being used for decorations. In Wisconsin, benches were made out of wood stumps and cut logs. It helps when the father of the bride is a carpenter. Posts were made out of wood stakes next to the benches that held a small wicker cylinder which supported a mason jar full of flowers. So simple, retro, natural-looking and just plain beautiful.

Random Wedding thought of the week:

Who is supposed to give a speech at the wedding besides the maid of honor and best man. The father of the bride and the father of the groom? The bride and the groom? Any mothers?

Quote from my memoir, “Diary of a Gay, Pregnant Bride”:

I folded paper cranes and glued them to the front of the invitations. I told Donna I wanted to represent her culture and background by adding an Asian theme to the wedding. When she saw my origami she said, “You know I’m not Japanese, right?” Her Vietnamese accent sounded sarcastic and sweet. She smiled.

Questions to Consider:

What can you hand-make yourself for the wedding? What can other people help you make or put together? Simple things that can be made of a few separate parts can save you big bucks!

Did you know?

A maid of honor who is not single but already married is called a “matron of honor” or “chief bridesmaid.”

Good Advice:

If your venue only allows food catered by a specific company or a professional vender, but you want something else and you don’t wanna pay big bucks for a catered snack? Do what I did at my wedding. Put peanuts or chocolate or mints (or all three) in little bags tied with ribbon and put them on each person’s place setting as a gift. The venue can’t tell you that has to be catered if it’s gifts for your guests.

Pride, Placemats, and Peanuts,
