Marriage equality has been a contentious issue in Texas. After many court battles, same-sex marriage was finally made legal in June 2015, when a Supreme Court ruling legalized marriage across the United States.
Dallas Pride takes place every September. An alternative Pride festival, Queer Bomb, happens in June. According to the Williams Institute, there are 5.2 same-sex couples out of every 1000 households, which is about 46,401 couples overall.
Obtaining a Marriage License in Dallas
To get a marriage license in Dallas, both of you must appear at the county clerk’s office. The license costs $81, or $21 if you take a marriage preparedness course. Your marriage license can be used after a 72 hour waiting period (unless you have taken a marriage preparedness course or are a member of the armed forces on active duty), and it expires after 90 days.
