The History of Same-Sex Marriages in Palm Springs

Palm Springs and the state of California began allowing same-sex marriages after the US Supreme Court ruling in the case of Hollingsworth v. Perry. This ruling came down on June 26th, 2013 – two years before the entire country received the freedom to marry.

With same-sex weddings now being accepted across the country, the wedding industry could see a major spike in business. The Williams Institute compiled data from the US Census of 2010 related to same-sex couples. When you look through this information, you can see that same-sex marriages should have a significant boost to the wedding industry.

As of the 2010 US Census, there was just under 70,000 unwed same-sex couples in California. A conservative estimate is that about half of these couples will marry, which could result in over $350 million in wedding-related spending.
